Veterans Day Parade

We Honor United States Veterans on Veterans Day

veterans day parade springfield

November 11th is Veterans Day. If your school is in session during the Covid-19 pandemic, take note, “Veterans Day is not just an extra day off from school.” “Veterans Day is not just another excuse for banks, post offices and other public buildings to close so that the workers can take a day off.”  Veterans Day is a significant day!

Veterans Day is Not an Ordinary Holiday

Often confused with Memorial Day, a day that remembers those that died while serving. Veterans Day honors those that have served and those that are now serving in the Arm Forces of the United States. On this day, we honor the sacrifices these men and women have made and continue to make to keep our Nation free.

Sacrifice Come in Many Ways

You or a friend may have or had a parent that served or now serves in the Armed Forces. These parents and their families often sacrifice with long separations as a mother or father is far away serving our country.

Many of our veterans and active duty personnel have lost one or more legs, arms, eyesight or suffered brain and other life changing injuries.

Some of our veterans and their families have sacrificed through loss of life while serving our Country.

Say Thank You to Our Veterans

On or near this Day, many cities and towns celebrate with parades and other events. When you go to these parades, don’t just reach out for the candy that some may be throwing out. Reach out to the veterans and tell them, “Thank you for serving.”

When in a public place and you see a man or women wearing a cap, vest or other item that indicates that they are a Veteran, say to them, “Thank you for serving.”

Yes, thank you Veterans for serving us, thank you for keeping the United States of America free.

There are many Veterans Day parades throughout the United States. Take a little time to attend one of these parades and say thank you to our Veterans.

Memorial Day a Day of Remembrance

Memorial Day at cemetary

Memorial Day is a day when we remember the Men and Women of the military that have died serving our country. Way to often, many kids and adults have looked at Memorial Day as a break from school and work.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, most kids are out of school and many adults are out of work. Many states and communities have been shut down with the citizens of our nation experiencing the nasty taste of excessive government control.

At this point, many of us are looking for normalcy. Some states and communities are now loosening their grip on the community with local parks and businesses are slowly reopening. In some states and communities the lock down has continued for an undetermined time.

There is not a better time, than now for each of us to reflect upon the true history of the United States of America. Each one of us should take the time to think about what our nation’s past. Think about what our country would be like today if it were not for our often-forgotten military heroes. Think about what it would be like if we continue to allow our elected officials to change us to a Socialistic society under their control.

Today more than ever, we must protect the freedoms and sacrifices that were made by many of our parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, friends, and neighbors. They made these sacrifices so that we may live in the United States of America as a free society.

Independence Day

The 4th of July

Kids Speak for America Independence Day

Independence Day, in the United States, the Fourth of July, a time when family and friends are getting together in celebration with pool parties, picnics or a day at the beach. An evening filled with excitement and fireworks. For many children this day is a highlight of their summer vacation as they will soon be returning to school. Many adults thinking as it as a long weekend or a day off from work. Unfortunately many among us do not know what we are celebrating on this historic day.

Why We Celebrate Independence Day

July Fourth in the U.S., commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were now  the United States of America, a new nation and no longer part of the British Empire. These original 13 colonies had formed a country that would become the greatest, strongest nation the world had ever seen.As we celebrate,  remember that the 4th of July is not just about fireworks, picnics and kids having fun. Each of us needs to reflect on the freedoms we have and what we must do to keep the United States of America free.

Independence Day

This Schoolhouse Rock video titled “Fireworks” features a song of the same title written by Lynn Ahrens. Kid, teenager or adult you will find this independence day song performed by Grady Tate to be catchy as we learn about this 4th of July holiday and our Declaration of Independence.

Flag Day is celebrated on June 14th in the United States. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. This video is inspirational for kids and adults and shows the importance of our American Flag. The video gives kids, young people and adults a better understanding of what our flag is and is not. A must watch video for all that would like to know more about the American flag and the United States of America.

9-11 Let Us Not Forget

Seth W. Leave a Comment

Let us never forget September 11, 2001. On this day 2,996 people lost their life thru four coordinated terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda, an Islamic terrorist group. With each 9-11 let us never forget those barbaric attacks. September 14 is Patriot Day and the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance. Not only on September 11 but again on September 14 we should reflect upon and remember.  9-11 let us not forget the victims of those September 11, 2001 attacks. Let us not forget the  more than 400 first responders that lost their life. Like many of you, I am to young to remember seeing the event as I had just turned two. As kids though it is imortant that we learn about an event that has made such a change to our country since that time.  [Read more…] about 9-11 Let Us Not Forget

Lonely Soldiers During Thanksgiving

Seth W. 1 Comment

Our country is in turmoil and as kids we sometimes worry when we watch the news with our parents and see all that is going on around us. We can be so thankful to our older brothers and sister, cousins, aunts and uncles and family friends that serve in the military to protect us and our country.

Every Thanksgiving I think about the soldiers stationed across the seas and others prepared to fight for us should they be called to do so. I feel sorry for them spending their Thanksgiving in a submarine or battleship, in aircraft or trenches behind enemy lines. I think about the lonely soldier and military sniper who never see friendly people near them and are unable to talk for if they did they may get shot. I am sorry you can’t spend time with your family.

This Thanksgiving and everyday, each of us needs to think of these men and women and when we see them give them a thank you and a hug for all that they do for us.

OoRah to all of you for your service to the country.
