Meet my teammate Austin Klecka. Austin just won the Gold Medal in youth boy’s javelin at the AAU National Jr. Olympics in Houston, Texas. Austin is a member of the Blazing Billies Track Club in Pleasant Hill, Oregon.

Austin is 14 years old and has been throwing a javelin for 3 years. He is a really great guy who helps his younger teammates and really did deserve earning the gold medal.

Last month in the AAU Western JR. Olympics in Reno, Nevada he also won the gold medal and set a new western meet distance record of 147’ 6” for the 14 year old age group.

Three months ago Austin started to teach me how to throw a full size javelin. Because of my age I had only been throwing what is called a turbo jav which is like a big dart. Even though I had only been throwing for a short period of time and was only twelve I got to throw in the 13 year old age group at the AAU Western Jr. Olympics. Thanks to Austin’s being such a good teacher I surprised everyone and took silver medal and qualified for the National Jr. Olympics, but there only came out 15th. I was really disappointed that I did not do better but my coach reminded me that is 15th in the nation.

Thanks Austin for being such a great guy and helping your teammates out the way you do. Better watch out though because now that you have been teaching me so well I am going to give you some real competition.

OoRah Austin
